Danpo breeds 100% Danish chickens that are raised and slaughtered in Denmark. You can trust that the quality is some of the best in the world - unlike many of the imported chickens in the chiller cabinet, which come from countries where food safety management and traceability do not match the standards of Danish agriculture.
All our chickens are halal slaughtered at our slaughterhouse in Aars. Halal slaughter follows normal slaughter traditions in Denmark. Prior to killing, the chickens are stunned, so the only difference with halal slaughter is that they receive a prayer along the way. Our slaughter process is monitored by veterinary authorities and is approved by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration.
We sell our Danish chicken in most parts of the world, and we do this to make the best possible use of the chicken and thus contribute to sustainable production. Most of these customers want the chicken to be halal.
Some of the products we sell to customers outside Denmark are also the chicken cuts (e.g. feet, gums and wings) that we do not use in Denmark. If we didn't sell our Danish chickens for export, it would result in higher prices. This is something we and consumers would rather avoid.
By having halal, we have a Danish slaughterhouse in Aars with hundreds of jobs and important export revenues.
As for free-range and organic chickens, they are slaughtered at Rokkedahl's slaughterhouse in Himmerland and therefore not comparable with the halal description from Aars. We therefore refer to Rokkedahl's website and their description.
